Mi Adidas Roland Tr-808 Custom Concept Shoe

THE CHALLENGE

When given the opportunity to develop our custom concept/prototype Mi Adidas, Neely & Daughters Chief Creative Officer Margo Neely popped and locked at the chance to create the TR-808 — inspired by the famous Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, break dance culture, and “808” (police code for “disturbing the peace.”) Not only do these kicks look fierce, but brace yourself: They actually. make. beats. The shoes are equipped with volume control and six different pre-programmed settings so you can recreate your favorite scenes from Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogalooin your mom and dad’s kitchen on a broke down cardboard box from Costco.

Though they have yet to hit the production line (the “Just for Kicks” creative challenge – pun intended – was custom design and prototype only), the shoes won major accolades and over six billion fans around the globe. The Mi Adidas Neely Air | Roland TR-808 design blew up social media when it dropped, and continues to do so today with its sleek, innovative design and fresh concept.

Margo Neely, creator of the Neely Air Mi Adidas TR-808 sneaker and Chief Creative Officer at Neely & Daughters, sought to pay homage to the legendary Roland TR-808 drum machine and the pioneers of Hip Hop with a 21st century twist. argo Neely is a thought leader, director, designer, innovator, and creative strategist. In 2007 she founded Neely Air (now a division of Neely & Daughters) — a boutique new media, film production, and design studio specializing in the creation of original multi-platform streaming digital content for global brands. She is best known as the creator of the Neely Air Mi Adidas TR-808 sneaker, the mega-viral drum machine shoe seen and loved by over 6 billion people worldwide, and as the multi-hyphenate creator of the television series Ladies Revenge Club, winner of “Best of the Fest” and “Best Short” honors at New York Comic Con/New York Super Week.

Margo is a University Honors Scholar, Founders’ Day Award recipient, and Magna Cum Laude graduate of New York University. She splits her time between New York City and The Berkshires.
